Custom Solutions for Illinois Industries

Church Buses for Illinois Congregations

Church Buses for
Illinois Congregations

• PlatinumCare Included: New church buses get 8 years, unlimited miles, bumper-to-bumper coverage, free.

• Plan for the Safety Test: Illinois law lists religious organization buses among the vehicles that must pass a state safety test and are subject to IDOT inspection. Ask IDOT about the schedule for your bus.

• Check the Weight, Not Just Seats: Illinois licenses by weight as well as seats. A bus for 15 or fewer people that weighs over 16,000 pounds GVWR (the maker's maximum loaded weight) falls in Class C, not Class D.

• Financing in Your Church's Name: We almost always finance with the church itself, not individual leaders.

Wheelchair Accessible Buses for Illinois Senior Care

Wheelchair Accessible Buses
for Illinois Senior Care

• PlatinumCare Included: Senior care communities get 8 years, unlimited miles, bumper to bumper, free, and the lift is covered.

• Senior Transportation Rules: Illinois law also names senior citizen transportation vehicles for state inspection, so confirm what applies to your bus with IDOT.

• Heavy-Duty Lifts: Commercial lifts from Braun, Ricon, and Maxon handle up to 800 pounds.

• Walk-Away Lease Option: Many senior communities lease so they can return the bus after a few years.

Shuttle Buses for Illinois Private Schools

Shuttle Buses for
Illinois Private Schools

• Teams and Trips: Illinois private schools buy from us most often for athletics, field trips, and activities.

• Flexibility: Private schools can usually choose any of our shuttle buses, not just school-bus-style vehicles. Check Illinois rules before using a bus for daily routes.

• Mind the CDL Line: A bus designed for 16 or more people, including the driver, generally needs a CDL with a Passenger endorsement.

• Activity Buses Available: We can also supply activity buses (MFSABs), built to yellow school bus structural standards. We don't sell yellow school buses.

Illinois Bus Sizes and Licenses

Bus Size Passengers (incl. driver) Common Uses License Needed?
Small Bus 15 or fewer Church outings, assisted living trips, hotel and airport shuttles Class D if 16,000 lbs GVWR or less; Class C if heavier
Medium Bus 16 to 30 Youth groups, campus and parking shuttles, school athletics Generally a Class C CDL with Passenger endorsement (Class B if 26,001 lbs or more)
Large Bus 31 to 45 Large church trips, employee and event shuttles Generally a Class B CDL with Passenger endorsement

Passenger counts include the driver, and our largest buses carry up to 45 people. Illinois Class D covers vehicles of 16,000 pounds GVWR or less that aren't designed for 16 or more people. Class C covers 16,001 to 26,000 pounds, or vehicles designed for 16 or more people under 26,001 pounds. Buses designed for 16 or more people generally need a CDL with a Passenger endorsement. Confirm with the Illinois Secretary of State before you buy.

Illinois Bus FAQ

Illinois looks at weight as well as seats. A bus designed for 15 or fewer people, including the driver, at 16,000 pounds GVWR or less generally falls under a regular Class D license. If it weighs 16,001 to 26,000 pounds, it falls in Class C. Buses designed for 16 or more people generally need a CDL with a Passenger endorsement. Ask your specialist for the GVWR of any bus you're considering, and confirm with the Secretary of State.

Illinois law (625 ILCS 5/13-101) lists religious organization buses among the vehicles that must pass a safety test before operating on Illinois roads and that are subject to Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) inspection. Check with IDOT for the current schedule and testing locations.

Yes. Most of what people call mini buses are our small and medium shuttle buses, which carry 15 or fewer or 16 to 30 people, including the driver. We deliver them to Chicago and the suburbs.

We don't sell full-size highway motorcoaches. Our buses carry up to 45 people, including the driver. Our large buses seat 31 to 45, and our L.A. West luxury executive coaches offer an upscale ride for smaller groups.

Yes. Used inventory changes daily, and used church buses generally run $40,000 to $80,000 depending on year, mileage, and condition. A used bus keeps whatever factory warranty remains, and an optional service contract is available.

Illinois Agencies to Know

Here's who handles what when an Illinois organization buys and runs a bus. Rules can change, so confirm the details with each agency.

  • Licenses, Titles, and Registration: The Illinois Secretary of State issues driver's licenses and CDLs and handles titles and registration. Your paperwork from us starts with the titling form you complete with your specialist.
  • Safety Tests and Inspections: The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) runs the safety test and inspection program that covers religious organization buses and senior citizen transportation vehicles.
  • Child Care Licensing: The Illinois Department of Early Childhood (IDEC) took over child care licensing from DCFS on July 1, 2026. Check its current rules before you choose a bus for children.
  • Federal Rules: The FMCSA sets the federal CDL rules Illinois follows, and NHTSA sets the safety standards new buses are built to.
